According to the Cleveland Clinic synesthesia is “when your brain routes sensory information through multiple unrelated senses, causing you to experience more than one sense simultaneously.” My synesthesia gives me the ability to see colors through music. It isn’t like flashing lights of the color though, it is more like when you put on colored sunglasses and you see the world through that colored lens.
I love having synesthesia. As an artist it can be an incredible source of inspiration. Seeing colors through music, I am able to just put it on and just let the paint flow. To make my life easier, I have all of my playlists color coded because seeing so many colors racing around can be quite distracting and overwhelming. My playlists generally fit into different genres. Here are my playlists:
RED: I listen to my red playlist the most. Red reminds me of fast pace and beat drops. This music gets me hyped up and excited. It is mostly rap music. Some of my favorite songs that are RED include: Party Monster by The Weeknd, No Role Modelz by J.Cole, and Go Girl by Pitbull, Trina, and Young Bo.

YELLOW: This playlist is not what you think. To me yellow is a sad color. I think about how everyone assumes that yellow is a happy color but the majority of people don’t even like the color yellow. I also associate yellow with the painter Van Gohsp (with his paintings of sunflowers) and his tragic life. Some of my favorite songs that are YELLOW include: Please Notice by Christian Leave, If By Chance by Ruth B, and Somewhere Only We Know by Miki Ratsula.

GREEN: This playlist is some darker music. This is mostly heavy bass rap music. I have a love/hate relationship with these songs. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. Some of my favorite songs that are GREEN include: Gosha by $not, Marceline by Lil God Dan, and masquerade by siouxxie sixxsta.
