I think the color yellow is sad…
For a number of reasons, but the first one that comes to mind is favorite colors. According to an article from Apartment Therapy, the world’s least favorite color is yellow with only 5 percent of people viewing it as their favorite. Yellow is regularly associated with sunshine and happiness, but the world prefers the ‘sad’ color blue.
Another reason I associate yellow with sadness are Van Gogh’s’ paintings. Any art lover knows of Van Gogh’s paintings and his incredible and repetitive use of the color yellow. He did what most artists still aren’t brave enough to do: paint majorly in yellow.
But, as I look at these stunning paintings I think of the person who made them. Vincent Van Gogh, a man who was tired and worn down from the incredibly high expectations that he set for himself. It hurts knowing that he never saw the beauty in his own paintings and he world didn’t either and he took his own life for it.
My final reason mainly deals with personal struggles. Summertime. The idea of summer sounds amazing in my head, the sunshine, no school, the beach, but when I really think about it, and when that time of year comes around I am always disappointed and upset.
When the sun comes, less and less layers of clothing are worn, bathing suits, crop tops, shorts, all things I don’t feel my most confident in. When I think of the beach, I think of the yellow sun and how uncomfortable and insecure I feel whenever I am there. I associate the color yellow with my own insecurities.
From Van Gogh’s art to my own insecurities, in my mind, the color yellow is sad.
