Chris Stefanelli is a senior at ELHS, however that isn’t his only title he holds. Stefanelli is a trained EMT, passing his courses and becoming certified. To become certified and allowed to have the title of being an EMT, Stefanelli had to complete and pass an entire course, pass a skill test, be up to par with the state evaluator and after all of this, finish with a written test. This is a lot of work, Stefanelli is motivated though.
“I was in an accident in 2021, while there I began talking to a firefighter. He inspired me and I joined firefighting classes. During this is when I began to like the idea of becoming an EMT, as you have to take those classes to become a firefighter.”
Stefanelli isn’t alone in becoming a student EMT, as ELHS has had many in the past years. One of his friends, senior Ben Racicot, went through a different course than Stefanelli, however it ended with the same result. They both became certified as EMT’s.
“Just like to help people, taking EMT classes helps me pave a pathway to become a firefighter,” Racicot said about his motivations to become an EMT.
In ELHS, there are opportunities to get started on becoming certified as an EMT. There is a course taught by Mrs. Turano. In this class, it prepares students for crucial situations where prehospital assessment and care is required and required fast. This is a senior only course, and there are requirements to get in, like taking classes like Human Anatomy or Human Body Systems.
If you are interested in helping to save lives by becoming an EMT, make sure to take this course, as it has helped forge many ELHS students into successful EMT’s.
