Nancy Kalal – Ms. Kalal couldn’t make the Q&A, here are her responses
The opportunity to be on the Zoning Commission is a chance to guide the growth of our town to protect our natural resources and to provide opportunities for self-reliance for our residents. While the State of CT sets the amount of affordable housing, we can and should require that all future development include areas for teens and children such as playgrounds, skateboard parks as well as bicycle and walking paths. Since our areas for commercial and industrial expansion are limited, other avenues must be opened for employment such as increasing the agriculture on the land and the sea, and offering incentives for teenage employment by small businesses. A register of volunteer positions should be established to encourage ages and interests to give back to our community.
As our town continues to grow, we should plan to make our town less reliant on other water from other towns, and to protect our valuable and unique aquifer. Bicycle and walking paths should be installed to allow access between all parts of our town both to patronize local businesses and from recreation.
