Dan Cunningham
Dan Cunningham, the EL Democratic candidate for the office of First Selectman, has been a member of the Board of Selectmen for eight years. He has worked as an attorney for 33 years, practicing within EL for 27 years. Mr. Cunningham feels as if he is qualified due to his skills with people and negotiation.
Some of his key issues include preserving the Niantic River in respect to sewer and septic issues, figuring out how to deal with short-term rentals/ bed and breakfasts, and what to do with the old police building in Niantic. He feels that the town should look into buying the old police building, possibly putting in either an art or music building, parking, or bathrooms.
Anne Santoro
Anne Santoro, the EL Republican candidate for the office of First Selectman, was on the Board of Finance from 2017-2021 and is currently serving a two-year term on the Board of Selectmen in which she is the Deputy First Selectman.
Her experience as an attorney for eight years, chairing the American Rescue Plan sub-committee, and co-chairing the short-term rental committee makes her feel ready for the job. Some of her key issues include public safety (fire safety, and traffic control), financial planning, especially for planning EL’s budgets years in advance, working on land-use priorities, advancing student success in the EL public schools, and improving public engagement with the municipal government.
