A week ago, I wrote a piece discussing the ongoing playoff series between the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves. At the time, the Timberwolves were shocking everyone. The series was 2-0, and it was looking to be a clean sweep for superstar point-guard Anthony Edwards and 2024 defensive player of the year center Rudy Gobert. However, things can change very quickly. And In the case of the Timberwolves, they changed for the worse.
The Nuggets, led by NBA Most Valuable Player center Nikola Jokic, picked up their first win in the series during game three. With the final score being 117-90, the Nuggets rode on the duo of Jokic and superstar point-guard Jamal Murray who both individually dropped 24 points.
It seems that going on into the series, the Timberwolves have much more to worry about. In game 4, the Nuggets would tie the series at 2. Credited to Nikola Jokic and his monstrous 35 points, and small forward Aaron Gordon finding his rhythm with 27 points.
This loss began to turn many heads, as the Timberwolves have completely lost their footing and their grip on the series itself. Anthony Edwards racked up 44 points in game two, however the final score was still 115-107 in favor of the Nuggets. It seemed that the Timberwolves letting Jokic get into his flow was their biggest mistake, as they have no response for him.
Last night, the Nuggets just took their first lead in the series. In game 5, Jokic dropped another 40 points to lead the Nuggets to a 112-97 lead. The series is looking down for the Timberwolves. Losing three straight has taken a toll, as Edwards has come out to say he is speechless. In other interviews, he has called Jokic the best player in the world. All eyes are on the Timberwolves, how will they respond in their upcoming elimination game on Friday?
