Born and raised in East Lyme, custodian Frank Burdick has been working throughout the East Lyme district since the 2000s. He is one of the custodians that helps make the commons once again a place where others want to be after the disastrous lunch waves.
His lively spirit and positive attitude is one that cannot be forgotten.
Growing up in East Lyme, Burdick played football for years. Memories with his cousins and siblings consist of maroon and white wrestling state champs, baseball state champs, and football state champs. Burdick has a son Gavin who is also growing up in East Lyme; he attends ELMS. When Burdick is not working, he is taking care of Gavin. “I’m always busy with [Gavin]. Always taking him to baseball, football, and wrestling,” Burdick said.
In Burdick’s free time, he enjoys watching sports documentaries and hanging out with Gavin. Both big on NASCAR racing, they travel to different states to watch the races.
Sometimes they go to Massachusetts and New Hampshire for local racing, but also have Nashville, Tennessee and Dover, Delaware in their road trip repertoire.
In the beginning of each July, they visit Burdick’s sister in North Carolina. Burdick and his family are really close. “[Gavin’s] just everything to me. He’s my biggest accomplishment,” Burdick said.
Always living in the moment, Burdick urges students, especially seniors, to enjoy school and life. “You don’t know how often you’re going to see some of these people after high school,” Burdick said.
Take Burdick’s advice, and also thank him for making our school a happier place.
