Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 Presidential campaign has been centered around policy which aims to directly improve the lives of the middle to lower class, Americans. This strategy has a focus on what she calls “daily kitchen table needs.” Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign is a devotion to the middle class rather than the “one percenters” and wealthy. During Harris’s speech at the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 22, she outlined her plan to cut taxes for the middle class, remove state abortion bans, protect access to reproductive health, impose stricter gun control, reduce the cost of housing, fight emissions, and reduce the prices of prescriptions. Harris’s proposed policy targets issues which everyday Americans discuss at their dinner tables. This has allowed for her approval rate to rise, gaining an edge nationally over Trump.
Harris also uses her background as a prosecutor to gain political power in the race. This is seeing as though her opponent has been convicted of the crimes she has fought against her entire life. She fought for the rights of the sexually abused and those who were taken advantage of by large corporations. Trump is charged with accounts of fraud and sexual assault. This provides a direct comparison of Trump to the same felons in which Harris jailed in her career as a lawyer. This comparison provides a crucial juxtaposition between the candidates. Harris is depicted as more powerful and a symbol of justice, while Trump is depicted as a criminal and a fraud. Overall, Harris capitalizes on her strength of fighting for justice to gain political power over her opponent, Trump. Harris’s campaign is successful through her depiction of the election as prosecutor versus felon.
