Senior Colin Bunkley recently committed to play lacrosse at Nichols College. “I’ve played lacrosse my entire life
and it’ll always be part of my life. I fell in love with lacrosse watching my older brother play and I wanted to be like him,” said Bunkley.
Nichols felt the most at home for him during his college visits and he is excited for his future there, academically
and athletically.
“My top three schools were Endicott, Western New England University, and Nichols. In my opinion, Nichols had the nicest campus and by far the nicest athletic facilities,” said Bunkley.
Currently, he plays long stick middie (LSM) and defense for the ELHS boys’ lacrosse team. After playing offense at
first, he transferred to defense during his sophomore year due to a teammate’s injury.
Throughout his time at ELHS, the boys’ lacrosse team has made the ECC championship game two times, winning it all when he was a sophomore. Bunkley is determined to bring his team back to the glory of being ECC champions this year.
During college, Bunkley plans to major in Criminal Justice and minor in Business with long term goals of becoming a Connecticut state trooper. Another attraction for Bunkley is that Nichols offers a great Criminal Justice program and has connections to local police agencies.
For Bunkley, his parents have always been there to support him through his journey to Nichols “My dad was constantly on me about emailing coaches and going to showcases,” said Bunkley.
Bunkley’s long time friend and teammate, senior Jack Keating, said Bunkley is “determined, reliable and a great player.” Keating’s advice to Bunkley is to “make sure to keep loving the sport” and to “continue to stay competitive” at the next level for lacrosse.
Varsity boys’ lacrosse coach Gary Wight said Bunkley is a team player, always doing what is best for the team.
“He often plays in different defensive positions on the field, always thinking about what would be best for the team during a specific game,” said Coach White.
