Welcome to Maggie’s Music: a section dedicated to rock and roll and classic alternative music. I would like to start out this first edition to this section by honoring one of rock’s most iconic and chaotic voices: Ozzy Osbourne.
The “Prince of Darkness” past away July 22 of this summer, just after performing his last concert with Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera, Tool, and Alice in Chains. From his early days, fronting Black Sabbath, he helped define heavy metal with tracks like “Paranoid” and “Iron Man,” bringing dark, distorted riffs and haunting lyrics into the spotlight.
But it was his solo career-full of wild theatrics and unforgettable anthems like “Crazy Train,” that turned him into a legend. Ozzy Osbourne was far from perfect. He was unpredictable, often outrageous, and lived a life full of controversy. But through it all, he was authentic. His music gave a voice to outsiders, to those who felt a little offbeat, a little too loud, or a little too much. That’s what I’ve always admired about him. He never tried to fit in.
So here’s to Ozzy: may his music haunt us forever.
