From vinyl to screen, Bruce Springsteen, heartland rock artist, promises to mix his trademark storytelling with the soul of his music. The upcoming movie has had fans wondering if the film will capture the same vibe “The Boss” has had for decades.
Bruce Springsteen came from a working class family. Growing up, he had a strained relationship with his alcoholic father, who often struggled with keeping a job. Springsteen started playing guitar at the age of 13 and began doing gigs at local New Jersey venues. His debut album was “Greetings from Asbury Park.” Originally the album wasn’t a hit, but now it’s recognized as one of his greatest albums. Two years later, his breakout album “Born to Run” came out, and his songs “Thunder Road” and “Born to Run” are huge hits today. Many people could relate to its message of an unattainable American Dream that so many people were looking for.
In the early 1980s, while recording his album “Nebraska,” Springsteen, played by Jeremy Allen White, struggles with his success and the memories of his past.
Hopefully, the movie will give us an insight into what was going on in Springsteen’s head when recording “Nebraska.” We should see White’s ability to play tough and gritty characters, while still showing their vulnerable and emotional side, shine through with this movie. In the trailer, White blew me away with his performance of the song “Born to Run.” White captures his raw, raspy voice that he is so well known for.
Overall, White was a good pick for the role of Springsteen, and it will be interesting to see the mind of Springsteen when he is recording such an influential album.
