After 19 years of shaping young minds in the halls and classrooms of ELMS, Carla Frisbie continues her talent of helping sculpt young brains as she takes on teaching Integrated Science at ELHS permanently.
“I love the energy of middle school, but I was ready for a change. I taught high school in Massachusetts before moving to Connecticut, and I have always missed mentoring this age group,” Ms. Frisbie said.
In her years of teaching science to 7th and 8th graders, Ms. Frisbie has learned that students value a “mutual respect” between themselves and their teachers. She believes that trusted bonds create a strong foundation for learning.
Ms. Frisbie also emphasizes the importance of relevance and connection in students’ learning.
“Learning about physics concepts is much more exciting when students can connect their learning to their favorite amusement park rides,” Ms. Frisbie said.
Ms. Frisbie plans to transfer these mindsets and strategies into her teaching at ELHS. She looks forward to creating relationships and working more closely with high schoolers.
“High school is such a pivotal time in figuring out who you are and what you want to be, and I appreciate that students trust me to be a small part of their journey,” Ms. Frisbie said.
