Nine years ago, Ashley Fiore was working as a job coach in the East Lyme transition program for students 18-21 years old who needed extra help with their futures.

She left the program due to her desire to be a special education teacher, and after bouncing around the East Lyme district for the past two years, Ms. Fiore finally landed a permanent position at ELHS. She plans to remain for many years to come.

“When I was growing up, I always had so much trouble reading and trying to take notes quickly,” she said. “It really made an impact having those teachers that seemed like they cared more and spent that extra attention and time. I really just wanted to make sure I give that to other students.”

She works with students with IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) and helps to guide them towards a future suited to their strengths, weaknesses, and interests. They practice resume building, mock interviews, and more in order to prepare for college, trade school, or jumping right into the workforce. Some may also go to the EL Transition Program.

“We’re giving them an understanding of who they are so they can utilize that when they leave,” she said.

Outside of school, Ms. Fiore enjoys photography, going to the beach, and boating with her husband and two children.
