If you have ever thought about becoming a teacher, the Educators Rising Club at ELHS might be for you – and one freshman is already making history.
MacKenzie Perry recently competed at the Educators Rising Spring Statewide Conference sponsored by Southern
Connecticut State University – and she placed third, becoming the first student from ELHS to do so. Even more exciting? She is heading to nationals in Portland Oregon this June.
MacKenzie’s event, titled “EdRising Moment,” focused on the experiences that made her want to become a teacher.
“It felt more than exciting,” Perry said. “Being the first ever one to do this at our school was such an honor.”
She didn’t just show up – she stood alone in a room and presented her speech to the judges.

“I don’t know how many freshmen would do that- I know I wouldn’t have,” advisor Molly Goldreich said. “I couldn’t be more proud.”
The club is all about helping students explore careers in education.
“Students get to connect, go to conferences, and see what it really takes,” Ms. Goldreich said. “It’s exciting- and a great reminder of why I love teaching.”
For Perry, the experience confirmed everything.
“It has reaffirmed that becoming a teacher is what I truly want to do,” Perry said.
And her message to other students? It’s simple: If you want to make an impact, this is the place to start.
