
National Geography Bee:
Winner of the “National Geography Bee,” a competition that replaced the “National Geographic Geobee” after it ended during COVID. This is the first year ELHS held this competition, introduced alongside a new geography class taught by Mr. McIvor. Cooper won against 19 students and scored so high that he qualified for nationals this May at Harvard.

Science Bowl:
Winners of the
Connecticut Science Bowl House Tournament (from
left to right Avneeta Basu (12th), Ryan Zheng (11th), Ben Li (11th), and Nitya Bulusu (11th), the team competed at a day-long, UConn event against top teams across the state. This regional competition is one of the largest in the country.

Aiden Cochrane:
Nominated for the fall semester “Student Semester Spotlight”
by Connecticut State Community College. Cochrane was recognized for his academic ability, strong engagement, and leadership in his college-level coursework, especially Personal Finance.

Shreyal Bhagwat:
First place at DECA States for Accounting Applications (Individual Series Roleplay). Shreyal won this award for applying financial data to business planning.
Mihir Heera:
First place at DECA States for a start-up business plan for his company, atlasopportunities.com. Mihir has been building this company since the summer, and his pitch was a time consuming, yet rewarding task. He went into the competition with absolute confidence in his work, despite this being his first competition.
Owen Garabedian:
First place at DECA States for Business Service Operations Research. Owen worked with “Essex Coffee and Tea Company,” and gathered data from customers through surveys. He then went on to analyze the responses and pitch his conclusions to the judges.
